Many of us make this mistake. It's not once or twice, but several times we would end up doing this to ourselves. I don’t need to tell you about my love life, and unless I tell you, there is no need to have tons of information.
When we first date someone, we like we usually go and tell our friends or family. We get caught up in the moment of infatuation and don’t think twice. We go from a best friend knowing to the neighbor down the block asking how our significant other is.
That's how rumors spread, and not only that but that also builds up pressure on you, and now you feel you have to be perfect to keep that relationship so that you don’t break up and everyone thinks you’re a failure. See how fast that escalated? That is how quick it can be for those who have no self-control to keep their mouth shut until the appointed time.
It's like when a couple tells everyone they are pregnant. They don't tell everyone the night that you conceived.
First of all, that would be TMI.
A couple will tell the family and friends after it's been a few months, which would be the appointed time. The truth is because you don’t know what could happen during those trimesters, or maybe you have twins or triplets. These things must be known at an appropriate time.
A great philosopher once said to me, “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch!” That was my mother. The quote still reigns true to this day. Be patient, and the fewer people that know about your business, the better.
Get to know this person first hand, and through time, you will know whether or not they are for you. Then you can take the next step of letting others know that you are in a solid, healthy relationship with your other half. To some, that may be marriage, but whatever the case may be, make sure you give yourself and your partner time to grow.
