I come from the same cloth of those that have rushed their stories. It became something that made me very inconsistent with the topics I presented. One moment I’m talking about love and the next I’m talking about video games. No cohesion. Has nothing to do with one another but I posted it. Now I get you want to say whatever comes to mind and that’s fine but it needs to be consistent. Early on I had no idea what way I was going with the account I made. I’m still learning but its becoming more and more clear what I should write. Having your stories mesh is a way for people that view your work decide they want to come along for the journey you started. Because they know what your next article will be centered around.
Niche
Finding your niche is a catalyst for your success as a writer. Doesn’t matter if you publish one story or a thousand. If its something you enjoy spending your time on then have it be what you talk about. It only makes sense. You will make the most stories out of the things you love the most.
You like sports? Write about it.
Your job? Write about it.
Living in another country? Take that pen and do what? Write it down.
You become a success at what you’re good at. Now if you’re one of those people that are good at everything then I don’t know what to tell you. Just write everything at that point. Even then, you still need to find your niche. Think to yourself. What’s that one thing that I can’t stop talking about or stop doing that gives me so much joy and fulfillment? Everyone has something that they hold dear to their heart. So do you. Think about it. Reflect. Take all the time you need but when you figure it out what it is that has you excited every time you think about it, let it be a part of your work. Its already a part of you. Dial it in. Jot down that subject and BOOM! You got yourself a niche.
Engagement
It is important to know your audience. If you don’t know who your audience is how do you expect to write topics related to them? Which would make you have consistent niche. Participation on any platform is important if you want your product to sell. The same can be said for this one. Go to other writers pages and read their stories. Like, all of it. Yes, even the 10 minute ones. I know our brain capacity for information has shortened through this digital era but try your hardest. It doesn’t hurt to support as well as critique another persons article. Leave a comment. Your comment may resonate with others and give you tons of reads and views off your replies. That would then turn other writers towards your own pieces. It takes a village to raise a child but it also takes a village to raise a business.
Research
Please for the love of everything just and holy do not come up with ideas that are actual news and quote it when you have not read the original story yourself. It makes your article come off as unprofessional and a little childish. Don’t believe me? Read the Medium requirements. Publications won’t even sneeze at your story if you can’t back up what you call facts. And on top of that you decide not to give the source credit. This will automatically dismiss you from making any type of money from curation. Read and research. Take your time. Patience is a virtue. Do not skip this process.
Patience
In this realm, proofreading and patience can be used as the same thing. When you are typing up your article its important to look back at it. Like an attractive person that you look twice at. Through every sentence you should check to make sure you have everything correct. From your spelling to your parentheses. Being grammatically correct goes a long way on this site. If you feel yourself drifting away from your plot take some time off. Its ok to walk away and take a deep breath. Even if you need to go outside for a few minutes and look at some trees. Don’t take too long or you’ll forget what it is you are trying to accomplish with your story. Next thing you know you’re on Netflix. Then there’s no story. No motivation. You are completely lazy at this point and have accomplished nothing for the day. Don’t be that person.
Now that I have shared with you the points you need to put forward to have a successful career as a writer its time for you to put in the work. Write down the things you would like to discuss on this platform and get it going. I’m a beginner myself but I have learned in a short time a lot of the steps needed to create a great profile of work. I will continue to grow here and I’m sure you will too.
